Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone windows and doors were manufactured in several series between roughly 1998 and 2016, and the part you need depends on which generation you own. The early Series 100 and 200 vinyl windows used a different sash balance mechanism than the later Series 300 and 400 units, which switched to a constant-force coil system. The label is usually found on the top of the sash or the hinge side of the frame, stamped with a model prefix like “SL-1” or “SL-3” followed by the nominal dimensions.

Signs Your Silestone Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash drops or won’t stay open. This usually means the balance system has lost tension. In Silestone Series 300 and 400 units, the constant-force coil can fatigue after 8 to 12 years of Los Angeles sun exposure, especially on south-facing elevations where the vinyl frame expands and contracts daily.
• Visible gap at the meeting rail when closed. The interlock weatherstrip has compressed or the sash has shifted in the frame. On older Silestone units, the polypropylene fin seal hardens in dry heat and stops rebounding, which is why we see this so often in Silver Lake and Los Feliz homes built in the 2005 to 2010 window.
• Lock won’t engage or requires force. The keep (the strike plate on the frame) has shifted, or the cam lock itself has worn. Silestone used a two-point locking system on most units, and if one point is misaligned, the other bears all the load and fails next.
• Condensation between panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. In Los Angeles, this accelerates when the desiccant inside the spacer bar saturates, which happens faster near the coast where temperature swings are milder but humidity is higher.
• Frame corner separation or visible bowing. The vinyl profile has thermally cycled beyond its design limit. We see this on Silestone units installed without expansion gaps or in dark colors on west walls, where surface temperatures can exceed 160°F in August.
