CWS produces driveway and paver systems in several product lines, and matching the right component matters more than most owners expect. The CWS Pro-Grade series, common in Los Angeles infill projects from 2016 forward, uses a 60mm paver with a proprietary chamfer edge and a specific 3/16-inch spacer tab. The CWS Permeable line, specified for many ADU driveway tie-ins to meet L.A. County stormwater requirements, runs a thicker 80mm unit with a wider joint designed for No. 8 stone infill. To identify your system, check the paver edge for the stamped “CWS” logo and a two-digit year code; if the stamp is worn, measure paver thickness and joint width, or photograph a lifted corner next to a ruler and text it to us.

For most repairs, we source OEM-equivalent components from our vetted supplier network, including Belgard and Techo-Bloc lines that match CWS dimensional specs. Signs Your CWS Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

• Rocking or wobbling pavers underfoot. This usually means the bedding sand layer has washed out or the base compacted unevenly. In Los Angeles, this happens most where irrigation overspray hits the driveway daily, or where downspouts discharge directly onto the edge course.
• Edge courses creeping into planting beds or lawn. The plastic or aluminum edge restraint has failed, often because stakes corroded in our alkaline soil or because the restraint was installed without adequate setback from softscape. Left alone, the whole field will loosen.
• Puddling that wasn’t there last season. Permeable CWS systems clog with fine sediment; standard systems lose grade when the base settles. Either way, water pooling against the garage slab or house foundation is a drainage problem that accelerates substrate failure.
• Joint sand washing out in channels. This signals either a sealant failure or, in permeable systems, that the No. 8 stone infill has migrated and the joint is now oversized. The paver loses lock and starts to shift independently.
• Chipped or spalled paver corners, especially near the street. CWS 60mm units hold up to passenger vehicle loading but degrade under point loads from delivery trucks, trash bins dragged across corners, or the sharp turn-in from steep Los Angeles driveways.

Where DIY goes wrong: resetting pavers without regrading the base guarantees the same failure in one season. Compacting a new base properly requires a plate compactor and the right lift thickness, typically 6-inch lifts for aggregate base in Los Angeles clay soils.
