• Rails pulling from posts at the bracket. • Post leaning or rotating in the footing. • Mesh sagging or detaching from tension bars. • Chalking, fading, or rust bloom on the finish. Ameristar’s polyester powder coat is rated for 3,000 hours salt spray, but that’s lab conditions. In marine Los Angeles air, we’ve seen chalking start at year 7 on south exposures. Once the coating is compromised, the galvanized substrate buys you time, not immunity.
• Gates dragging or latch misalignment. Hinge barrels wear, or the post settles and throws the gate out of square. A gate that drags is a gate that will eventually bend the frame; the correction is shimming or replacing the hinge, not just grinding the bottom rail.
