Quikrete Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Quikrete fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130-$10,620 for a complete vinyl or aluminum system, depending on linear footage, soil conditions, and whether we’re anchoring into existing concrete or pouring new footings with Quikrete Fast-Setting Concrete Mix. We stock Quikrete-compatible post bases, anchor bolts, and concrete mixes on every fence truck, and most residential jobs in the Los Angeles basin start within a week of the written quote. Homeowners usually discover a Quikrete fence failure when posts lean after winter rains, gates sag where the hinge bolts pulled out of undersized footings, or cracks spider through surface-set concrete that never reached the 4-inch depth the spec calls for in our expansive clay soils.

Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete doesn’t manufacture fence panels or gates, they manufacture the concrete and anchoring system that keeps the fence standing. For Los Angeles installations, we most commonly specify Quikrete Fast-Setting Concrete Mix (1004-50) for post footings in clay-heavy neighborhoods like Palms and Mar Vista, where standard set times risk washout from surprise afternoon rain. Quikrete Crack Resistant Concrete Mix (1006-50) goes into footings in hillside areas from Silver Lake to the Hollywood Hills, where seismic movement and slope drainage stress ordinary mixes.

To identify what you have, check the bag residue or contractor receipt for the SKU. If the footing was poured before 2019, it may be standard Quikrete Concrete Mix (1101-50), which achieves 4,000 psi at 28 days but lacks the synthetic fibers that reduce shrinkage cracking. We don’t use aftermarket concrete for fence footings, the PSI variance and set-time unpredictability aren’t worth the savings. For post bases and hardware, we source Simpson Strong-Tie AB series anchor bases or equivalent hot-dip galvanized, which we bed in Quikrete and vibrate to eliminate voids. A void at the base of a 6×6 post is what lets the post rock, and rocking is what cracks the concrete collar.

Signs Your Quikrete Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Quikrete Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Post leans or wobbles at grade level. The concrete footing either didn’t achieve full depth, was poured dry (common with fast-setting mixes where water ratios were guessed), or the soil compacted unevenly after the fact. In Los Angeles, this shows up first on south-facing slopes where clay expands and contracts with irrigation cycles.
  • Concrete collar cracked or spalled at the post base. This is freeze-thaw damage in disguise, even in Los Angeles, where nightly temperature swings in winter can hit 30 degrees. Quikrete Crack Resistant Mix prevents this with its air-entrainment and fiber blend; standard mix without it will spall within three to five years.
  • Gate drags or latch misaligns seasonally. The hinge-side post is rotating in a footing that’s too shallow or too narrow. For a 6-foot vinyl gate in Los Angeles wind zones, we pour 12-inch diameter footings 36 inches deep; anything less, and the gate’s leverage works the post loose.
  • Water pools at fence base after rain. The concrete footing was finished above grade without slope for drainage, or the post hole became a sump because no gravel bed was placed beneath. Quikrete footings need 6 inches of compacted 3/4-inch gravel below the concrete to let water escape rather than saturate the base.
  • Rust streaks running from hardware into concrete. Galvanized hardware was set too close to the concrete surface, or non-galvanized fasteners were substituted. Once rust starts, it expands and cracks the concrete collar from within. We set anchor bolts with 2 inches of cover minimum.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Quikrete fence installation in Los Angeles, our installed price ranges from $4,130 to $10,620 for vinyl systems, with aluminum running $4,720 to $11,800. What drives the spread: linear footage (most Los Angeles lots need 80-120 linear feet), access for digging equipment (hillside lots in Los Feliz or Echo Park add labor), and whether we’re removing failed footings or starting fresh.

Component Typical Range
Concrete removal and disposal (per post) $180-$340
New Quikrete footing, 12″ × 36″ (per post) $220-$390
Vinyl panel and rail, installed (per 8 ft section) $290-$520
Aluminum panel and rail, installed (per 8 ft section) $340-$610
Gate with hardware, single $590-$1,180
Permit and inspection (City of Los Angeles) $470-$825

Every quote is a flat written price with line-item scope, delivered before work starts, under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation and materials. We also stock KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for related hardscape and outdoor kitchen projects.

There’s safe checking, and then there’s the point where a fence job goes wrong fast.

An owner can verify post depth with a tape measure, check for standing water at the base, and confirm whether the concrete was mixed to a pourable consistency (dry-pack crumbles, proper mix holds together). What you shouldn’t attempt: removing a failed footing with a post still under tension from attached panels, jackhammering near underground utilities (Los Angeles has dense utility maps, and “call before you dig” is legally required), or repouring concrete without verifying the post is plumb and braced during the full set time. Fast-setting Quikrete reaches initial set in 20-40 minutes, but full load-bearing strength needs 48 hours. A fence that leans at hour three is a fence that stays leaning.

We pull permits, verify utility clearance, and document the footing depth and concrete batch on every job. If the footing isn’t right, we dig it out and do it again. That’s in the written scope before we start. Call (213) 652-7670 to schedule your free estimate.
